3.5% of people in New Zealand identify as something other than heterosexual. (Stats NZ)

25% of adults under 25 identify as being gender diverse

8% of women aged 16-24 and 6.5% of women aged 25-34 identified as gay, lesbian or other. (Stats NZ)

35-40% of LGBTTQIA+ adults experienced discrimination compared with just 16% of heterosexual adults. (Stats NZ)


1 in 35 adults have had a relationship with someone identifying as the same gender as them (Stats NZ), which was more prevalent in the under 35's.

In October 2020, Arlene took to instagram to find out what people's experience of pregnancy care was like. Unfortunately, but not unsurprisingly, the results were negative. People felt undervalued, discriminated and in some cases, the way they were treated was a barrier to them ever having more children.
