Arlene

(she/her)

Loves cats, reading, sewing, knitting, dungarees, all arts n crafts activities, crossfit, yoga, scuba diving and baked goods. Surprisingly good at keeping her house plants alive.

Originally from the UK, I qualified from Bournemouth University in 2016 with a First Class Degree in Bsc (Hons) Midwifery and was awarded the Health and Social Sciences Midwifery Award. This is awarded to one student in their final year of qualification for recognition of outstanding commitment and ability to provide family centred care that is underpinned with a reflective knowledge base and a high quality of professional practice.

I moved to New Zealand in January 2019 and was working full time as core member of staff on the Labour and Birthing Suite at Auckland City Hospital until May 2021. I transitioned into full time Lead Maternity Care (LMC) self-employed midwifery practice specialising and dedicating my time to the rainbow community. I pride myself on providing high quality care that is individualised to each whānau.

After many years of wanting to complete my 200hr Yoga Teacher Training course, but life always seeming to get in the way, Covid-19, uncharacteristically enabled me to not only have the time, but also the money to commit to finally pursuing this dream. I completed my 200hr training with Contemporary Yoga in September 2020.

I qualified as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant in April 2024 and offer a more complete and holistic approach to breast/chest feeding care.

Following the death of my partner Lou, I moved back home to the UK to be closer to family and have launched the EMPWR Birth Online Antenatal Course to ensure that people living anywhere have access to comprehensive queer-celebratory antenatal education.
