What is a lactation consultant?
An IBCLC is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant who has acquired the prestigious and internationally recognised professional qualification in breast/chest feeding. This qualification requires the candidates to have a background in health sciences, achieve a minimum of 95 hours of lactation specific education and at least 1000 hours of clinical experience. They must pass a 4 hr infant feeding exam to qualify as an IBCLC. IBCLCs adhere to the Code of Professional Conduct for IBCLCs and must recertify every 5 years.

IBCLCs are internationally recognised as the highest professional qualification for breast/chest feeding knowledge and support. This qualification ensures that new families are receiving evidence-based care.
